چکیده

1. Lysine is readily incorporated into mycobactins P and S. Incorporation is into the hydroxamic acid moieties only and is equal in the mycobactic acid and cobactin portions of the molecule. 2. 2-Amino-6-hydroxyaminohexanoic acid is not taken up by cells of Mycobacterium phlei and is not detectable in extracts of cells actively synthesizing mycobactin. 3. The most abundant material derived from lysine that can be detected in such cell extracts is an N(6)-acyl-lysine. Cells grown in the presence of iron contain markedly less of this material than do those grown under conditions of iron deficiency. 4. When added to growing cultures of M. phlei the N(6)-acyl-lysine is readily incorporated into mycobactin. 5. The hydroxy acid of cobactin P is derivable from propionate.

Disruption of mycobactin biosynthesis leads to attenuation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis for growth and virulence.

BACKGROUND  Low iron availability in the host upregulates the mbt gene cluster of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is responsible for mycobactin biosynthesis. However, the biological significance of mycobactins in the growth of this pathogen and in disease progression has not been elucidated. METHODS  We have disrupted the mbtE gene (Rv2380c) in the mbt cluster to evaluate the importance of ...

P-82: Effect of SCNT Steps on Relative mRNA Abundances of Sheep Oocytes

Background: The oocyte is a unique cell committed to reprogram fertilizing sperm and to support early stages of embryonic development until the species-specific stage of zygote genome activation that occurs around the second to third cell cycle in sheep embryos. In this sense, considering the huge list of oocyte transcripts, we selected some candidates genes based on their roles of regulating di...

Methods for the separation and identification of mycobactins from various species of mycobacteria.

A single pure component was isolated from mycobactin P by countercurrent distribution; its side chain is n-cis-octadec-2-enoyl; its purity and molecular structure were confirmed by mass spectrometry of its aluminium complex. The separation of ferric and of aluminium complexes of mycobactins by thin-layer chromatography is described. Mycobacterium terrae, M. marinum and M. smegmatis produce myco...

Enhanced Expression of Genes Involved in the Biosynthesis Pathway of Tanshinones in Tetraploid Plants of Salvia Officinalis L.

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Polyploidy is one of the main factors in plant adaptation that can increase secondary metabolites production in plants. Salvia officinalis L. is a perennial plant from the Lamiaceae family with a long history of use in the medicinal industry. Tanshinones are crucial active compounds biosynthesized in Salvia. This study was aimed to analyze the expr...

Expression Pattern of pmt, erf1 and jap1 Genes in Nicotiana benthamiana and Atropa belladonna Plants under UV Radiation, Wounding and Methyl Jasmonate Treatments

The Solanaceae plants produce a variety of interesting biologically active products including the steroid alkaloids solanidine, nicotine and tropane alkaloids. Putrescine N-methyltransferase (PMT) is an enzyme that catalyses s-adenosylmethionine-dependent methylation of putrescine in one of the primary steps of nicotine and tropane alkaloids biosynthesis pathway. Two tobacco members of the AP2/...
